Alexandria, VA, July 13, 2016 – The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) is pleased to announce that Jim Compton, Vice Chairman and Chief Revenue Officer of United, will participate in ASTA’s Global Convention in an exclusive interview with CBS News Travel Editor Peter Greenberg, a multiple Emmy-winning investigative reporter and producer and one of America’s most recognized front-line travel journalists. In 2015, and for the first time in many years, top executives of the country’s largest carriers participated in ASTA’s Global Convention. This year, that participation expands with Mr. Compton’s presence.
“In today’s travel marketplace, airlines rely on the expertise of travel agents to act as an extension of their sales-force, and ASTA promotes the agency community directly with carriers every step of the way,” said ASTA President & CEO Zane Kerby. “With U.S. agents providing $89 billion in air ticket sales in 2015 as well as the carriers’ highest-margin business, we’re thrilled at the opportunity to welcome United back to discuss with Jim how the airline-agent relationship can continue to expand and grow.”
“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to participate in ASTA’s Global Convention this year and to have the chance to meet with the agency community,” said Compton. “I greatly look forward to both my time at ASTA Global and the opportunity to hear from agents during my time in Reno Tahoe.”
The importance of the travel agency community to the airline sector was made clear when in September 2015 top executives of the largest carriers in the United States participated in ASTA’s Global Convention in Washington, DC – American Airlines’ Derek DeCross, Delta Airlines’ Bob Somers, and United Airlines’ Dave Hilfman. Hilfman, United’s Senior VP of Worldwide Sales will return to ASTA’s Global Convention this year as emcee of the annual ASTA Advocacy Dinner, a celebration of ASTA's influence in shaping the policies affecting the retail travel business spotlighting ASTA’s role in the legislative process.
All members of the press wishing to cover the Global Convention may register here, subject to approval. Registration and all meals associated with the conference are complimentary to the working press.
